Register for LPE

You may register for the Lamar Proficiency Exam (LPE) during the registration period. See step-by-step registration instructions below.

Lamar Proficiency Exam Schedule

Step 1

  • Your eligibility registration status will be verified by the TExES office during the registration period.
  • If all requirements are not met, your registration will be removed and you will receive an email in reference to the removal of your registration.
  • A confirmation email with detail instructions will be sent to students who have registered. If you do not receive a confirmation, you should not consider yourself registered.
  • It is your responsibility that you submit the correct exam name and number when registering for the exam.
  • Once you submit the exam information, you will need to give the TExES office a 24-hour notice to change the information if needed.
  • We are not able to change your exam information on the day of testing.
  • You will not be able to enter without a photo ID to test.

Step 3

  • Pay the Lamar Proficiency Exam fee of $10.00 per exam.
  • Be sure to upload the completed .

Calculators and Cancellations

Calculators Provided

Scientific Calculator: 4-8 Core, 4-8 Math, 4-8 Math/Science, 7-12 Science, 7-12 Life Science, EC-12 Special Education

Graphing Calculator: 7-12 Math exam allow the use of approved graphing calculators. Graphing calculators are not supplied by the TExES Office—students must bring a graphing calculator.

Cancellation Policy

Students registered for a Lamar Proficiency Exam who are unable to attend at that time must cancel with a 24-hour notice.

Students who do not attend the testing for which they are registered must pay the $10.00 Lamar Proficiency Exam fee and must pay the $10.00 fee to take a subsequnt exam.

If a student provides a documented family or personal emergency, their $10.00 fee will carry to the next exam registered. Emergencies include but are not limited to hospitalization, illness, death in the family, verifiable official university business or jury duty summons.

After You Complete the LPE

Step 1

  • I passed with a score of 250 or higher: Receive exam voucher for TExES state test.
  • I earned a score less than 250: Contact faculty associated with the LPT course for remediation review.

Step 2

Step 3

  • I passed TExES: Apply for clinical teaching/residency.
  • I did not pass TExES: Contact Dr. Casey at jcasey4@lamar.edu. You must complete remediation review within 30 days to retake TExES.

Additional Information

Study Plan Review

  • The Study Plan Review will provide assignments based upon each student performance on the LTP and TExES state exams.
  • Each assignment is designed to target the competencies and domains that need additional focus, ensuring a greater understanding of the material being tested.
  • A Study Plan Review will be implemented after the first attempt at the LPT and TExES state exams.
  • If you are unsuccessful on the first attempt on either exam, you are required to contact the faculty member for the course associated with the exam and schedule a remediation review. Bring your score report and pick-up a remediation documentation form from the TExES office to bring to the faculty member.
  • Students are required to complete all assignments of the Study Plan Review.
  • If students have any questions, email the TExES office at texes@lamar.edu.

Clinical Teaching/Residency

Before students are eligible to enroll in clinical teaching or residency:
  • Students must take the required content area and EC-12 PPR Lamar Proficiency Exam.
  • Students must pass the required content area and EC-12 PPR TExES state exam.
Residency students (one year):
  • Students must take the required content area Lamar Proficiency Exam and pass the required content area TExES state exam.
  • During the first semester, students must take the EC-12 PPR Lamar Proficiency Exam and pass the required EC-12 PPR TExES state exam.
Important to note:
  • If students do not take the required content area Lamar Proficiency Exam and pass the required content area TExES state exam prior to enrolling in clinical teaching or residency, students will not be eligible to enroll in clinical teaching or residency.
