Funding Opportunities

Is your organization looking for ways to support the College of Engineering? Here are some ways to contribute:

Outreach

  • K-12 Focus

    Competitions
In order to stimulate enthusiasm and a love for mathematics and science, the College of Engineering would like to host competitions that focus

    • Robotics
    • Imagination/invention
    • Math and Science

    Camps/Programs
Introduce engineering to young students in order to provide a glimpse into their possible future as an engineer and allow them to make contacts that can ease their entry into our engineering degree programs.

    Engineering Expo
Engineering Expo is an engineering design competition, with a strict focus on inspiring K-12 students to explore the field of engineering. The Expo is an all-day event with activities for all age groups.

  • Teachers

    Workshops
Teacher workshops provide cutting edge content and applications to those focus or concentration lies within any of the STEM fields. The idea is to have an outstanding day of interactive experiential learning while exposing you to real science at a Carnegie Doctoral Research University.

    Elite Teacher Fellowships
Elite teacher fellowships seek to attract talented, committed individuals with backgrounds in the STEM fields that teach in K-12 schools. The Elite fellows will be immersed within the college of engineering, partnering with professors on research and student activities.

    Teacher Academies
The Teacher Academy is an intensive, one-week, all-expenses-paid professional development program that shows teachers how to put a fresh spin on classic math and science concepts using fun, hands-on experiments. The Academy will equip teachers with the tools and strategies to increase their students’ interest and excitement about math and science, helping to develop future scientists and engineers.

  • Scholarships

    Diversity scholarship
The College of Engineering seeks to promote and celebrate the diversity of our students, and we offer scholarships for underrepresented students. Students meeting the criteria will automatically be considered for these scholarships

    Graduate fellowship
Graduate fellowships are for highly qualified Masters or Doctoral students. This award is for eight semesters and includes full tuition as well as a one-time International Research Travel Allowance of $1,000.

Employer Branding

  • Welcome Event
The Welcome Event is the beginning of the Lamar Engineering Experience. A Welcome Barbeque kicks off the Fall semester. Meet new friends and get to know the campus community at Cardinal Village with a free concert, faculty and staff meet and greet, outdoor movies, informational fairs and much more. Students will receive a gift and invitations in their dorm rooms when they arrive on campus.
  • Upgrade Facilities
    Name rooms, labs, dept., building
  • Student Organization Sponsorship
Sponsor student organization events throughout the semester.  (Trivia, Softball, Volleyball, Dodgeball tournaments)  Sponsor student organization facility tours and conference trips.  Sponsor student organization t-shirts for members.
  • Senior Projects
Sponsor specific Senior Project teams in one of the 5 departments.  Each team will compete in the annual Senior Design Symposium that attracts faculty, students, and industrial partners from all over.  Sponsoring teams enhances the student experience and gives teams the opportunity to create projects that would otherwise be unfeasable.
  • Senior Design Symposium
Senior Design Symposium is the culminating experience for graduating seniors. Teams complete a capstone project in which they design and prototype a product, device, process or software system.  The Symposium brings together teams from all five departments for an opportunity to share their projects with the public.  Individual students or student teams present their projects and selected findings to a team of judges comprised of industry and faculty.  Senior Design Symposium draws visitors from the community and industry, as well prospective students interested in exploring engineering.
  • Engineering Week
The Student Engineering Council will host E-Week and the Engineering Student Organizations will host events throughout the week.

    Purpose of the week:
Celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world.  Increase public dialogue about the need for engineers.  Bring engineering to life for kids, educators, and parents.
  • Scholarship Luncheon
Engineering Scholarship students and company representatives are invited to a casual luncheon.  Students are encouraged to network with industry reps.
  • Online Marketing
Sponsor online marketing strategies to recruit prospective Engineering students.
  • Finals Week Late Night Breakfast
Sponsorship of late night snacks in the Cherry Engineering Building during Finals week

Student Professional Development

  • Alumni Events
Sponsorship of events with company alumni to network with engineering students.
  • Dinners
Host Dinners with select students.  Collect resume books for potential co-op and full-time hires.
  • Workshops
Professional Development Workshops.  Company representatives visit campus and host professional development workshops.  For example: resume writing, career fair tips, professional dress, etc.
