Leadership Workshops

Student Organization Workshops are available to provide foundational education for student organization leaders and/or members.

Do you need help building a team, running effective meetings, understanding leadership styles, creating a community service project or achieving your goals? At the NSLP office, we offer customized workshops on these topics — and many more — based on the specific needs of your club, group or organization. 

Before you request a workshop, please see if the topic is already offered through our Workshops for students. If you don’t see a Workshop that meets your needs — or if you need to schedule a workshop for your group or class — please request a workshop using the Workshop Request Form here.

 

Who Are These Programs For?

These workshops and programs are primarily for students and student groups, and are free of charge for students and student groups.

How to Request a Program

Step 1. Plan Ahead

All programs require at least three weeks advance notice, and should have at least 10 attendees. Please note that you are responsible for providing any required presentation equipment on-site (e.g., a computer, audio/speakers, projector and screen); if you cannot provide the equipment, please let us know.

Step 2. Review the Available Programs

Read the descriptions on this page and decide which program is right for you.

Step 3: Fill Out the Request Form

Make sure you include your contact information.

Step 4. We Will Contact You to Confirm

When your request is received, we will contact you to coordinate details and confirm the time, date and location for your program. Your request is not confirmed until you are contacted by one of our staff members.

Step 5. Promote Your Program

Please collaborate with others and advertise your program to attract attendees and ensure participation.

 

Workshops and training sessions:

  • Ice Breakers and Energizers:Allows individuals, teams, and groups to get to know one another while participating in engaging and interactive activities
  • Team Building:Challenges teams and groups to work together towards creating a more successful outcome.
  • Communication:Allows for the practice of expressing thoughts and receiving information effectively.
  • Values Development: Allows for students to identify their personal ethical values, the ethical values of their teammates, and how they connect to their leadership style and presence.
  • Personal Professionalism: Identify what professionalism is and positive and negative examples of professionalism as well as the role of it within leadership.
  • Servant Leadership: Allows for students to learn about servant leadership and how to serve their organizations or peers as a servant leader.
  • Appreciation Languages: Identify your appreciation language and how to appreciate those around you and in your organization.
  • Interpersonal Conflict: Allow participants better understand various approaches to conflict, which approaches they utilize more frequently, and how to use each approach appropriately.
  • Leadership Styles and Philosophy:Identifies personal leadership styles through assessments and introduces new ways to approach leadership through student development and leadership theory.
  • Moral and Ethical Decision Making: Engage students in activities designed to uncover the pros and cons of the ethical approaches they are already using. Students will also learn about other helpful approaches. Practical resources for making difficult choices will be provided.
  • True Colors:Participants will complete The True Colors™ assessment to gain insight into their own leadership style as well as how to effectively work alongside others.
  • Community Service: Allows for students or student organization to increase knowledge about community service, and opportunities within the area. As well as how to track service hours for the university.
