The LU Department of Theatre & Dance is pleased to announce the second production of the semester, "The Revolutionists"* written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Guest Artist Laura Moreno.
Four women, a playwright, an assassin, a former queen and a Caribbean spy walk into a room in Paris. It sounds like the beginning of a joke; indeed, from this scenario we get the feisty comedy called "The Revolutionists." This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters and how we change the world.
Lauren Gunderson has been the most produced playwright in the USA for many of the past few years. In addition to being incredibly popular with theatre companies and audiences alike, Gunderson has also won the Steinberg Playwright Award and has been a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
Guest Artist Director Laura Moreno has worked in extensively in about every area of the theatre, most recently with the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX. About directing "The Revolutionists," Moreno says “we have a cast of four fierce females, that blow me away every time I am in their company. I cannot wait to share what we’ve discovered and created together. This script has so many wonderful elements woven together to create a dreamlike fugue with historic events and figures but with a modern attitude and lens. It exudes RESISTERHOOD!”
Taking on the role of Olympe De Gouges, LU acting student Brianna Cobos says “I am eager to get this process started. I believe it's going to be a challenge but I’m ready for anything that’s coming so the truth of these characters are portrayed on stage. I am so honored to collaborate with our talented guest director, Laura Moreno, and I’m so excited to go through this process with her, and along with my 3 cast mates. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, there’s a barricade!”
"The Revolutionists" performances are April 13-16 with showtimes beginning at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Studio Theatre between the Dishman Art Museum and the Jimmy Simmons Music building on the campus of 91自拍论坛.
