Lights, camera, action: The Heidi Chronicles prepares to take the stage

The LU Department of Theatre & Dance is pleased to announce the first production of the semester, “The Heidi Chronicles”, written by Wendy Wasserstein and directed by Assistant Professor Alan Brincks. “The Heidi Chronicles” will take the stage starting this week. the-heidi-chronicles-cast

“The Heidi Chronicles” paints a series of vignettes in the life of Heidi Holland. From a 1960s high school dance to her career as an art historian in the late 1980s, we follow Heidi on a comedic and poignant journey as she tries to navigate her career, sex, children, relationships and the role of women in a rapidly changing world.

Wendi Wasserstein won a gamut of awards when the play reached Broadway in 1989, including the Pulitzer Prize, the Tony Award and The Drama Desk Award among others. Even though the play is now over 34 years old, the themes and characters of “The Heidi Chronicles” continue to be pertinent in 2023.

Taking on the title role of Heidi Holland, LU acting student Juliana McManus states: “I look forward to being able to put Wasserstein’s words and ideas into action and do them justice with my cast mates –– there will be plenty of challenges along the way, but ultimately the process is what will make it so rewarding. The characters in the show are complex people and arguably the most relatable thing about the show. I cannot wait to start working!”

“The Heidi Chronicles” performances are Feb.23-26, with show times beginning at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the University Theatre between the Dishman Art Museum and the Jimmy Simmons Music building on the campus of 91自拍论坛.
