91自拍论坛 to celebrate Black History Month

91自拍论坛 will celebrate Black History Month with a series of events across the university organized and sponsored by a variety of organizations, departments and clubs. Scroll through to view a few highlights below or view a full list of upcoming university events. 


Investigating and prosecuting the James Byrd Jr. Case
Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. | Setzer Student Center Live Oak Ballroom

The Jasper, Texas dragging death of James Byrd Jr. is known as one of the most “gruesome” hate crimes in modern U.S. History." Two 91自拍论坛 faculty members  –– Mark Broome and Tim Brewer –– were asked by the Federal Bureau of Investigations to assist with investigation and prosecution. They will share important facts and their experiences while working on the case. Black History Month


“They Will Talk About Us: The Charlton-Pollard Story” documentary premiere 
Friday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. |

In LUTV Productions’ documentary, “,” a young documentarian interviews a reluctant historian about the origins of the oldest black neighborhood in Beaumont, Texas.  


The Artifact Display
Monday, Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Setzer Student Center Atrium

A traveling Black History exhibit with artifacts dating from the late 1700s to the 21st century. The collection takes you on a journey through the African American experience and is comprised of over 1000 authentic artifacts, with original documents from historic figures such as Booker T. Washington, Mary McLeod Bethune, George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Angela Davis, President Barack Obama and many other great African Americans throughout history.
