LU student Tim Cohrs receives Press Club Memorial Scholarship

Annually, the utilizes funds accrued from donations, contest entry fees and banquet proceeds to provide a 91自拍论坛 communication student with the Press Club Memorial Scholarship. This year’s recipient was LU journalism major Tim Cohrs, who believes his scholarship serves as a representation of all the work he’s done over the years in the communication field.

“I’ve been a member of the Press Club since freshman year and I feel honored to be the recipient of the scholarship. I believe my work and experience set me apart from other applicants,” Cohrs said. “I thank not only the Press Club, but everyone who helped me along the way.”

Cohrs’ passion for journalism stems back to his involvement with the Panther Press newspaper at Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas where his stories competed and won against other high schools and colleges internationally. He also had a major hand in building the school’s newscast, KOTV and served as the producer and director of graphics for the show. He later interned with Justin Elbert, director of external communications for Klein ISD, where he learned how to use the social media management software he would eventually come to use at LU’s .

During his time here at LU, Cohrs previously acted as director of communications for the Cardinal Esports and was the recreational sports marketing supervisor for LU’s Recreational Sports department for most of 2020. He currently serves as a staff writer and managing editor with UP and manages the website and its social media content. He also records the UP Radio Report with current UP editor Olivia Malick, which airs every Wednesday at 7:50 a.m. on 91.3 KVLU and highlights the work taking place at the University Press.

In Dec., Cohrs will become the Editor in Chief of the University Press and said he plans to move the paper to a digital format. “This semester has been spent training our very new staff and they’ve been improving all semester,” Cohrs said. “I’m definitely excited about my upcoming position of editor in chief, and I have some big things planned.”
