Senior chemistry and biochemistry major, Menna Elsaka, and senior biology major, Krystal Le, are heading to Orlando, Fla. to present their research at the 56th National Collegiate Honors Council Annual Conference on Oct. 27. The two are excited for their trip along with the rest of their group members, Sindi Castillo, Jasmin Reyes, Kaylee Goodspeed, and Arizbeth Lopez.
The National Collegiate Honors Council is an educational organization designed to promote and support undergraduate research. The national conference, held annually, has many schools in attendance and luckily, 91自拍论坛 has been chosen to present on the research topic “Resilience in the Time of COVID-19: A Virtual Experiential Learning Program Serving Students and Cancer Patients.”
The group teamed up with alumnus, Dr. Lindsey Minter, over the summer of 2020 on a Reaud Honors College Collaboration. Minter worked with the group to learn about biomedical research and the distribution of information to cancer patients regarding the effects of the virus on cancer patients.
“I knew I wanted to do research and thought this was a good way to ease into it. I’m so excited to attend my first conference ever,” Krystal said.
Krystal and Menna both worked with their teammates to translate their article into Spanish and Vietnamese – two languages they both know very well. The group focused on health literacy and Menna shared that the research was all virtual and easy, “We wanted to put medical verbiage into layman’s terms. We both grew up translating to our parents, so we wanted to produce something accurate and medically sound.”
