Mechanical Engineering Team Nabs Grand Prize at LU Engineering Senior Design Symposium

The College of Engineering hosted its annual Senior Design Symposium on April 30. Senior Design Symposium (SDS) is the culmination of a year of planning, designing, and building that all LU engineering students undertake as their final capstone projects before graduation. SDS acts as a link to the public to promote interest in STEM and increase awareness of the successes of the College of Engineering and its students.

This year, 44 groups competed for individual department awards with the hope of becoming crowned Grand Champion of the event. The projects ranged from robotic cars and human powered vehicles to a Moon to Mars Exploration System and brewery design.

Department winners included Toppings Refinery Retrofit, Chemical Engineering; South Park Community Garden Pergola, Civil and Environmental Engineering; Model E, Electrical Engineering; Garden Moisture Meter, Industrial Engineering; and American Society of Mechanical Engineers Human-Powered Vehicle, Mechanical Engineering.

Five judges, representing each department from various industries, evaluated the projects to determine which would be named Grand Champion. The judges awarded Not Fast Just Furious and their ASME Human Powered Vehicle as the winning project. Team members include Dru Roberts, Jacob Thomas, Cameron Ainsworth, Ben Chida, Luke Tanton.

The Senior Design Symposium would not be possible without our many sponsors, including ExxonMobil, INEOS, Motiva, and the American Society of Chemical Engineers.
