LU gamers earn a win, cash and qualifications
Lamar Cardinal Esports placed third in the Fortnite duos season for central conference in the Collegiate Starleague. Two freshmen, Gabe Ruff and Kenny Ho, not only secured the win but each scored a $1,250 cash prize Awarded by C League and qualified for the “Fortnite” season playoffs.
“After we fluked the first two rounds, I got heated,” said Ho, a computer science major. “I knew I had to stop being nervous. I had to play well, because if we lost, I was only going to cash out $50.
The team won the third round and gained top points in the final round landing them in third place. Ho got the second greatest number of kills, 14, and Ruff, also a computer science major, put solid numbers up to make the strong finish.
The team will now face off against the top eight teams from every conference and have a chance to be recognized as best in the nation.
Cardinals Esports and the Computer Science Department are proud of what these students have accomplished and looking forward to what is to come.
“Student success is what Esports at 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ is all about,” said Dr. Tim Roden, faculty advisor for Cardinal Esports. “When we started this last fall one of our goals was to enable students to earn money for college expenses. So, this win has really energized everyone. I am super proud of our students. This is a fantastic year to be at Lamar.”
