Master of Music in Performance (M.M.)

The performance track for the Master of Music (M.M.) degree is a Hybrid program and requires 30 semester hours as listed below. In addition, a public recital and either a research paper or lecture recital are required.

Course of Study

  1. Applied Music — 12 hours (three semesters, four credit hours in person each semester)
  2. Music History — Six hours (two 3-hour online courses)
  3. Music Theory — Six hours (two 3-hour online courses)
  4. Music Education — Six hours (two 3-hour online courses) including MUED 5320, Music Reference, Research and Writing (required of all master's degree students)
  5. Public Recital — 50 minutes of music
  6. Lecture Recital — Performance-related, based on research, or research paper. A committee consisting of the student's major applied professor and two other performance faculty in the same/related area will evaluate.
  7. Oral Examination — The student will coordinate a three-person committee including the student's primary applied professor and two professors with whom the student has completed a minimum of one class. The examination must be completed successfully before the graduate school's published deadline.
