Peer Notetakers

Peer notetakers are an accommodation assigned to some students to mitigate limitations from their disability.  For most students with disabilities, these notes are to supplement the student's own notes.  Access to course presentation materials in the online learning management system can help all students improve their note-taking.

If a student in your class has a notetaker accommodation, please make every effort to identify one or two students from your class that are willing to serve in this role.  Please ensure the confidentiality of the ARC student.

Faculty may e-mail or read the following announcement in class.

Peer notetaker needed. The Accessibility Resource Center is recruiting a volunteer to take notes in this class. No extra time outside of class is required.

Qualifications for a volunteer peer notetaker:

  • Has legible handwriting and reasonably well-organized notes.
  • Plans to attend class regularly.
  • Is willing to have their notes copied, scanned, or emailed.
  • Volunteer needs to complete a sign up as a notetaker through our AIM Data Base by going to www.lamar.edu/arc and clicking on the red AIM ARC Login button.  If the volunteer has any questions they can stop the ARC Office located in COM 105 for assistance.

Once you have identified a volunteer notetaker, please put the student needing assistance in contact with the volunteer. Notes may be shared in person, via e-mail, or through the AIM Database. The ARC student has the choice of how notes are received to ensure their confidentiality is protected, if desired.

If you are unable to locate a volunteer peer note taker for our course, please contact the ARC for further information.
